Basilio Esteban S. Villaruz, in his article “Philippine Ethnic Dances” (2011), he talks about the significance of folk dances for the people of the Philippines by arguing that dancing is a form of survival as much as it is spiritual and social expression. He supports this idea by going into to the different aspects of cultural dancing, expressing the fact that display their life and developed habitation in chants, songs, dances and music-making. His purpose is to share with the readers this beautiful form of art that has been passed down from generation to generation, thus keeping this rich tradition alive. He establishes an informal relationship with his audience, those who want to learn about it more, and educate them on the filipino culture.
